  General Notes:

In 1885, Richard and his brother Edmund moved by train west to Bismarck, ND arriving on Apr. 4, 1885. They stayed at the Banner house until they could build on thier homesteads. They settled on a homestead in Cromwell Township and remained until his death in 1899. His sons and daughters spread to adjacent farms near Wilton. Richard and his family experienced the period of the "sod-buster" and sod houses and also the disappearence of the buffalo in Dakota.
