bullet  General Notes:

Robert Dale Sheets, 69, died Friday, Jan. 16, 2004, at Sarasota Memorial Hospital in Sarasota, Fla. He was born Sept. 20, 1934, at Monongalia General Hospital, the only son of the late Dale G. Sheets and Nora Falkenstein Sheets. He graduated from Morgantown High School with the class of 1953, and from West Virginia University in 1958 with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. He became a professional structural engineer in 1962, and worked with Baker and Coombs for 16 years before joining his partner Francis Minor as they built 56 shopping centers in seven states. After retiring in 1989, Bob and his father inspected real estate for 10 years. Bob was a charter member and past president of Westover Rotary Club, a Paul Harris Fellow, and served on the Board of Directors of Christian Help Inc. He also was chairman of the Monongalia General Hospital Building Committee, chairman of Morgantown's Board of Code Appeals, and was a consultant for many local charities. Among his many accomplishments, a favorite was his work with Sister Brendan Conlon to renovate the old Royal Furniture Company building into the present home of Christian Help. He dedicated 15 years of service to the Morgantown Sightless Guild as a tribute to his beloved blind Aunt Blake, who had helped raise him. Other contributions to the community included his role as Director of Construction for the West Virginia Bicultural Village, which was completed on June 30, 1963. Additionally, he designed and built the "Enchanted Village" for WVU's Childrens' Hospital, a four-year project in the mid-1980s. He is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Margaret Ann "Peggy" Klink; four daughters, Nora Date Sheets and Patricia Jo Biafora, both of Morgantown, Laura Elizabeth "Beth" Sheets, of Centreville, Va., and Amy Adell Craig, of Deep River, Conn.; two special sons-in-law, David Biafora and Daniel Craig; three grandchildren, Lauren Alyssa Biafora and Alex David Biafora, both of Morgantown, and Katherine Amelia "Kacy" Craig, of Connecticut. Also surviving are his uncle, Harley Sheets, of Houston, aunt Martha Zimmerman, of Sarasota, and 15 loving cousins. As special mention, surviving are an ex-wife, Cookie Coombs, best friend Blair Savage, of Naples, Fla., and numerous other close friends, including Delmar Hagedorn of Masontown, Janice Cordwell of Morgantown, and former partner Francis Minor, of Mount Morris. He was preceded in death by a son, Michael Holbert, in 1986. Friends may call at Hastings Funeral Home on Monday, Jan. 19, 2004, from 4-7 p.m., and on Tuesday, Jan. 20, from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. On Wednesday, Jan. 21, the body will be moved to St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, in Star City, where it will lie in state from 9 a.m. until the 10 a.m. Funeral Mass, with Father Dean Borgmeyer as celebrant. Interment will follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery in Mount Morris, Pa. Memorial donations may be sent to Christian Help Inc., P.O. Box 1257, Kermit, WV 25674.
