General Notes:
Ludwig(1), Agnes and five children arrived in Philadelphia, Colony of Pennsylvania, aboard the Galley Ann, on Sep. 27, 1746. He took the oath of allegiance to the colony on the same date. On Oct. 4, 1746 he submitted to an indenture of eight years to Richard Wister of Philadelphia, for whom he worked as a buttonmaker. This indenture was to pay for the trans-Atlantic passage. Ludwig(1) and Anna had ten children. Three died before they immigrated and it is assumed that two died during the long voyage as only five children have records at the St. Michael and Zion Lutheran Church in Philadelpia. Agnes died in 1747 and ludwig remarried on Mar. 13, 1748, to Maria Barbara Hermann(in). The 'in" indicates widowhood. Maria had a daughter by her previous marriage, named Maria Verionica. Maria Verionica later married Ludwig (2) and became a positive factor upon her own widowhood in 1777. Ludwig (1) died in 1771. At that time the church records show that four of his and Agnes's children were still living and that there was one child that had been born to his second marriage. There are no other records on that child, but his name is believed to be Stephen. Ludwig(2) was appointed (among others) as executers of the will of Ludwig(1). The value of the estate was registered was 700 English Pounds,(about $3500.00). This was a very large amount for a man that immigrated as an indentured servant. Ludwig's death record at st. Michael and Zion Lutheran Church Ludwig’s death record in the church is recorded as follows: "Ludwig Falkenstein, a son of the late Ludwig Falckenstein and his wife Maria, born in Engstlatt, Balingen Amst (county), in the Duchy of Wurttemberg on Nov. 19, 1706. Soon after he was baptized.. He was educated in the Evangelical Church and confirmed. In adult years he was married to the daughter of Hans Falckenstein, Agnes by name, with whom he had ten children. Came to this country with his wife and five children in 1746. He lost his wife by an early death in 1747, and married the widow Barbara Hermannin of Germantown with whom he had one son. In his last years He lived near Philadelphia and belonged to this congregation. He was 65 years less one month when he died, and he left a widow and four grownup children. Text:Psalms 39:6-9." Rev. Henry Muhlenberg, Patriarch of Lutheran Churches of America, handwrote this.
Ludwig married Agnes Falckenstein-[31] [MRIN:6], daughter of Johannes Hans Falkenstein-[2502] and Catharina Haug-[2501], about 1728 in Engstlatt, Baden Wurttemberg, Germany. (Agnes Falckenstein-[31] was born on 13 Mar 1703 in Engstlatt, Baden Wurttemberg, Germany, died in 1747 in Philadelphia, PA and was buried in 1747 in Philadelphia, PA.)
Ludwig also married Maria Barbara Hermannin-[42] [MRIN:10] on 13 Mar 1748 in Philadelphia, PA. (Maria Barbara Hermannin-[42] was born about 1720 in Unknown and died on an unknown date in Unknown.)
